2.5 Fractured Still Life

fractured 7

Plan and paint a fractured still life following the cubism-meets-pop style of Romero Britto.

Pencil Composition:

  • Find a photograph of a still life scene.
  • Objects should mostly overlap each other
  • Off-centered, non-symmetrical composition

Fracture:

  • Divide your drawing into 20+ pieces using geometric or organic lines
  • Keep “readability” in mind, don’t have too many concurrent fractures with the lines of your composition

Paint:

  • To help gain unity, choose a dominant color style for your objects and another for your background
  • Each object should stand out from each other and the background
  • Paint each fracture a solid color with varying hues, tints, and tones from its neighbor
