2.2 Graphite Value Drawing

target
Objective

Develop craft of shading with graphite pencils to create the illusion of depth.

1) Choose a shape type such as rectangle, ellipses, or abstract.

2) Outline and add a drop-shadow effect to the 1st layer of “holes” using your chosen shape. You should have at least 5 holes for Layer 1.

3) Lightly outline your 2nd layer shapes that are only visible through the 1st layer’s holes. Add the drop-shadow effect again but slightly darker than Layer 1. You should have at least 8 holes for Layer 2.

4) Repeat step 3 for Layers 3 and 4. Make sure to rest your drawing hand on vellum to avoid accidental smudges.

5) Optional: Create a scene in the same style.
