1.6 Experimentation: Artist Remix

target
Objective

Create one finished artwork that combines all 3 traits you practiced.

Time to play in the lab! You’ve practiced 3 traits from your visual artist ancestry and will now create a unique artwork by remixing them. This is your first big experiment so take risks and see what happens.

  • You must show clear influence from each of the 3 traits, but how they overlap is up to you.
  • Each artwork/photo doesn’t necessarily need to have a message or idea this time, but it sure is good practice! The idea can be related to your potential sustained investigation topic (known as an inquiry question) or something else completely.
  • For each artwork/photo, draw 3+ Thumbnail sketches (see 1.7 How to Brainstorm).

Complete a finished artwork or 2 photos.

  • Push past copying. Mix the traits, layer them, twist them into something new or unexpected.
  • Take risks! The focus in on the process, not perfection.

Write a 100-200 word reflection on your artwork/photos. Please include:

  • What traits did you combine? How? Credit the artists, too.
  • What risks were involved? What surprised you?
  • Did you like the result? What will you incorporate in your future art, and what might you leave behind?

Be prepared to share your remix with the class during a critique day (treats included). You will be filling out a rubric for a peer as well.

Add your artwork/photos to your WordPress.com portfolio along with your thumbnails and reflection.
