1.11 Floating Still Life

target
Objective

Continue to practice rendering the 4 Laws of Light with a tried and true "still life" painting.

Choose an object to paint (need ideas?) on a 3000-px square document.

  1. Draw the silhouette of your object floating in the middle of the square. Fill the shape and add a clipping mask above it for painting.

  2. Render/paint the form of your object with a single downward light source using a variety of brushes and blending modes. Smudging is optional, but texture brushes are priceless!

  3. Create and render a floor and shadow in perspective.

  4. On a separate layer, add bounce light to the bottom of your object since the floor has now become a secondary light source.
