2.2 Graphite Portal Room

target
Objective

Use 1-point perspective and shading to create a portal room.

1) Set the Scene: Draw a simple one-point perspective room as your “base reality.” Add 3+ personal details to the room to make it personal.

2) Design the Portal: Roll a D20 to decide what kind of portal and world to draw on the back wall. On the back wall, create a large portal frame. It can be circular, square, or jagged depending on your connecting world.

3) Draw the World: Inside the portal, carefully draw details of the world in one-point perspective. These details can be landscapes, buildings, creatures, etc. Reference images are your friend!

4) Connect the Two Spaces: How does the portal affect the room? Try glowing light, stretching shadows, or maybe even objects getting pulled toward it.

5) Shade: Use blending, hatching, and high contrast to make the portal feel like it’s glowing and to add form to objects.
