Explore oil pastels and the sgraffito technique.
1) Use a ruler to separate your paper into 4 triangles as shown in class.
2) Draw your tree in pencil and then again in black sharpie.
3) Lay down a light “underpainting” for each season in the negative space.
4) Add a gradient on top of your underpainting for each season.
5) Use a toothpick to sgraffito, or scratch, the top layer of pastel in seasonal patterns and revealing the underpainting.
