4.4 Sports Portrait

Objective

Practice using 3 lights to create a dynamic and sporty portrait of a school athlete.

Choose your model and attire for the photoshoot in the studio. They should wear their team jersey and bring their sport’s paraphernalia.
Use the 3-light setup as shown in class to take 30+ photos of different poses. Make sure to encourage and guide your model! Studio photos can be found on the OneDrive link on the homepage.
Edit the photo using the following steps:
  • Retouch (blemishes, shadows, teeth, eyes, shape)
  • Dodge/burn the face
  • Dodge/burn the body
  • Paint a glow around the subject
  • Color grade (find a YouTube tutorial you like for this step)
Photoshop: click on File > Export > Export As and select the JPG format.
All exports should have the long edge equal to 2500px.
Upload your photo into a gallery block on your WordPress.com website.

Novice (50%)

Student does not complete all steps, take 30+ photos, and/or submits work incorrectly.

Apprentice (80%)

Student completes most steps, almost takes 30+ photos, or has a weak attention to detail.

Master (100%)

Student completes all steps, takes 30+ photos, and a has strong attention to detail while editing.

Grandmaster (Extra Credit)

Student completes 2+ portraits at the master level.
