Final: Themed Series

target
Objective

Conceptualize, create, refine, and present a series of 6-8 photographs that communicate a cohesive narrative or conceptual theme.

Select a theme that reflects personal experiences, cultural influences, or a social issue (e.g., identity, community, isolation, change). Read this article for ideas.

Research artists, photographers, and styles that relate to your theme.

Create a mood board to explore visual ideas.

Plan your shots, considering composition, lighting, and subject interaction.

Take 30+ images, experimenting with different angles, framing, and lighting.

Apply a range of techniques learned in class, such as:

  • Depth of field manipulation (shallow vs. deep focus)
  • Rule of thirds, leading lines, and other compositional strategies
  • Natural vs. artificial lighting techniques
  • Motion blur or frozen action effects
Refine your favorite photos in Lightroom and Photoshop. Engage in peer critiques and self-reflection to refine your series.
Photoshop: click on File > Export > Export As and select the JPG format.
All exports should have the long edge equal to 2500px.

Upload your photo into a gallery block on your WordPress.com website. Describe the objective of the project and how you approached it.

Write an artist statement (250-500 words) explaining:

  • Your theme and artistic choices
  • The techniques you applied
  • Your creative and revision process

Participate in a class discussion or presentation about your project.
